The giddy play The Twentieth Century Express is more than a comedy, as the real express that connected Chicago and New York in 1933 is more than a train.

In the luxurious composition, steeped in jazz and gin, the great Broadway director Oscar Jeff and his former lover - the Hollywood star Lily Garland - fly. Along with them travel an irresistible secretary, a sour Irishman, a lover on probation, a startled showman, a rival producer, a German from a self-made troupe, a millionaire prophet, an undercover adulterer, a sexy temptation and a crazed train master.
